What is a prosthodontist?

A prosthodontist is a specialist in the replacement and restoration of teeth. A prosthodontist is usually considered the architect of the dental team and they are responsible for coming up with the blueprint, or treatment plan, for the patient and then executing the “restorations” in that plan. A prosthodontist has finished 3 additional years of dental education to master the skills necessary for all types of dental restorations (veneers, crowns, dentures, implants, bridges, etc). A prosthodontist does more than just “fix teeth.” With extra years of specialized training, prosthodontists consider both the function and aesthetics of your smile when recommending and conducting treatments.

What is the difference between a dentist and a prosthodontist?

While a dentist is trained to handle all routine dental care and minor dental procedures, prosthodontists have extra training to replace teeth and restore oral health and function throughout the entire mouth. At Advanced Dentistry, we also have top-rated lab technicians and an in-house master ceramist to ensure your final restoration and smile is absolutely perfect. Additionally, as prosthodontists, we work with other specialists in the dental field to coordinate care, such as orthodontics and implant surgery, to ensure you receive the very best results possible.

What does a prosthodontist do?

At Advanced Dentistry, our prosthodontists are experts on anything that needs to be replaced, repaired, or restored in your mouth. Our treatments restore form, health, and function to your teeth and gums. We do everything from dental implants and dentures, to full mouth reconstructions, veneers, teeth whitening treatments, and more!

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

No! Although we are highly referred by dentists throughout Portland, a doctor’s referral is not necessary to book an appointment.

Do you offer free consultations?

We do not. Our consultations include extremely detailed examinations. Our goal is to provide the highest level of care at every step of the process. During your new patient exam, you will often have as much as an hour and a half of one-on-one time with the doctor to discuss your current concerns, past dental history, dental conditions, and various treatment options. Our consultations are carefully designed to put you one step closer to resolving your concerns and improving your smile.

Do I need to book a new patient exam?

Whether you have an idea of what treatment you need or aren’t sure where to start, we invite you to schedule a new patient exam. Our goal is to get to know you and understand your dental health and your dental goals. Starting with a new patient exam leads to the best treatment recommendations and high-quality, long-lasting results.

Do you help with existing implant problems?

We work with many patients with existing implant issues that their general dentist may not be equipped to address. We have decades of experience working with every type of implant and have the equipment and materials needed to address all types of implant restorations.

Do you replace dentures?

Yes. If you’ve had dentures for a number of years and would like to explore replacement options for cosmetic or functional reasons, talk to us. We offer full or partial dentures as well other tooth replacement options like implant overdentures.

Can you help improve the appearance of my smile?

Yes! We offer cosmetic treatments to address any concerns you have with your smile. As prosthodontists, we’re uniquely qualified to evaluate your mouth as a whole. We start by ensuring you have a strong and healthy foundation. From there, we can create durable, beautiful, and natural-looking cosmetic improvements through treatments like full mouth reconstructions, implants, crowns, veneers, and teeth whitening. If you’re ready to put your best smile forward, get in touch.

What are your payment policies?

We are a fee-for-service practice. Payment is required in full at the time of your appointment. We accept cash, credit cards, and checks. We also accept financing through CareCredit & Lending Club. Learn more about our payment policies

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider, but do our best to help you maximize your benefits. If you have dental insurance, we’re happy to complete insurance paperwork and submit claims on your behalf. Any insurance reimbursement will be sent to you directly.
